Facility Supervision Digital System (AFyaSS)

A centralized digital system for the Management of Facility Supervisions in Tanzania Mainland. A web-based application that manages configurations and preparation of a supervision visit to a facility/council based on HMIS data, along with a mobile application for data collection during field visit.  A key part of this system is use of a digital system to facilitate health facility supervision processes, before, during and after the supervision visit, and to manage and facilitate the use of facility supervision data.

This was part of the Data Use Partnership (DUP), a government-led initiative that is improving the national health care system through better use of health information. The initiative is under the Ministry of Health, Community Development, Gender, Elders and Children (MoHCDGEC) and President’s Office Regional Administration and Local Government offices (PORALG) and supported by Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF) under supervision of PATH Tanzania as implementing partner.

Facility Supervision digital system development completed in 2020 and was launched in 2021 by the Minister of Health, therefore the system is now used at National, regions and councils to conduct supervision.

The system uses DHIS2 as repository, developed used Angular technology for web application and Flutter for Mobile application leveraging the power of open source platform which has strong support base.
